Toyota has confirmed the production of an electric pickup truck, the Hilux, in 2025

Recently, Toyota announced its plans to introduce a fully electric version of its Hilux pickup truck. This move represents the next step in the automaker’s journey towards electrification.

With the growing interest in electric vehicles, Toyota is not lagging behind this trend. The president of the company’s Thai division stated that an electric version of the popular Hilux pickup will be unveiled by the end of 2025.

The electric conceptual version of the Hilux truck was showcased in honor of the automaker’s 60th anniversary in Thailand. Toyota stated that the prototype was developed in the country, which serves as a significant manufacturing center in the region.

Noriaki Yamashita, a representative of Toyota in Thailand, confirmed that the production version of the electric Hilux pickup is imminent. However, the production location has not been specified yet.

Before entering production, the Hilux pickup will undergo testing in Pattaya, located in eastern Thailand. It is planned that the city will receive a fleet of electric trucks next month for use in public transportation.

This announcement comes shortly after Isuzu revealed its plans to commence production of the electric D-MAX pickup in Thailand by 2025. Toyota remains a leader in research and development in the field of electric vehicles.

While Toyota has not yet confirmed the possibility of releasing the electric Hilux for European customers, the company is studying the demand for such vehicles. It adheres to a «multi-pronged approach» in its offered powertrains, including electric, hybrid, and even hydrogen engines.

Thus, Toyota continues to build its development strategy, focusing on cutting-edge technologies and market demands, maintaining its positions in the automotive industry.
